On Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd October in Kings Place, London, and the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, we’ll be presenting a programme of dazzling choral works that accompanied the crowning of monarchs from 1661-1761. When the monarchy was restored in 1660, restored also was the coronation service. Designed to impress, it engaged the best of British talent. These are the pieces that took centre stage as part of the pageantry and politics at the heart of the coronation ceremony.
On Saturday, 16th October, at 11am, join us on Zoom for a lecture-recital with musical director Edward Higginbottom and Mezzo-Soprano Stephanie Franklin. When the monarchy was restored in 1660, restored also was the coronation service. Designed to impress, it engaged the best of British talent. We have a closer look at the musical side of things, from the coronation of Charles II to the coronation of George III, spanning exactly 100 years, 1661 to 1761.
